INTRODUCTION: Subjective cognitive decline means a decline in the subjective perception of self-cognitive function, which is likely to evolve into mild cognitive impairment and dementia. The number of elderly with subjective cognitive decline has increased, bringing huge burdens and challenges to caregivers and society. With the increase in research on art therapies, some of them have gradually been proven to be effective for cognitive function. Therefore, this study aims to summarise the evidence and identify the best art therapy for elderly with subjective cognitive decline. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We will include published randomised controlled trials written in English and Chinese if the intervention is one of the art therapies and applied in people aged 60 and above with subjective cognitive decline. Eight electronic databases, including the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, Web of Science, Elsevier, China BioMedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP Database and Wanfang Database, will be searched from January 2013 to December 2023. Art therapies will mainly include music therapy, reminiscence therapy, painting therapy, dance therapy, reading therapy, horticultural therapy, museum therapy, calligraphy therapy and so on. The outcome will be cognitive function. Study selection, data extraction and quality assessment will be performed by two reviewers. The risk of bias will be evaluated according to the Cochrane Collaboration's risk-of-bias tool, and the evidence quality will be assessed with the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation. Standard pairwise meta-analysis and Bayesian network meta-analysis will be conducted. The probabilities of each art therapy will be ranked based on the surface under the cumulative ranking curve. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Ethical approval is not required for reviewing published studies. To provide important evidence for clinicians and guideline developers, the findings of this study will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42023443773.

Background: As an important monitoring index for adaptation to hypoxia, sleep may reflect the adaptive state of the body at high altitudes. The literature has shown a link between altitude and sleep problems, and sleep changes have become a common problem for individuals at high altitudes, negatively impacting their physical and mental health. As research on high-altitude sleep has gained attention in recent years, the publishing volume has increased worldwide, necessitating a more comprehensive understanding of this field. This manuscript evaluates the key themes and emerging trends in high-altitude sleep over the past few decades and predicts future research directions. Methods: Articles related to high-altitude sleep published from 1992 to 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, and the relevant literature characteristics were extracted after the screening. Then, bibliometric analyses and visualizations were performed using Microsoft Excel, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and an online analysis platform (http://bibliometric.com). Results: A total of 1151 articles were retrieved, of which 368 were included in the analysis, indicating a gradually increasing trend. The United States, Switzerland, and China have made significant contributions in this field. Bloch KE from the University of Zurich was determined to be the most productive and academically influential author in this field. The highest-yielding journal was High Altitude Medicine & Biology. Initially, altitude training was the primary research topic. Currently, research focuses on sleep disorders and sleep apnea. In the coming years, keywords such as "sleep quality," "prevalence," and "obstructive sleep apnea" will attract more attention. Conclusion: Our findings will assist scholars to better understand the intellectual structure and emerging trends in this field. Future developments in high-altitude sleep research are highly anticipated, particularly in terms of sleep quality at high altitudes and its associated prevalence. This research is also crucial for the improvement and treatment of symptoms during nocturnal sleep in patients with chronic hypoxia due to cardiopulmonary diseases at high altitudes.

Background: Dementia have brought great challenges to patients, families and society. Numerous art therapies for patients with dementia have been developed in recent years. However, it is still unclear which art therapy represents the optimal strategy for promoting physical and mental health. Objectives: To compare the efficacy of various art therapies in improving cognitive function, activity of daily living, depression, anxiety, agitation behavior and quality of life, and rank the art therapies for practice consideration. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was performed in eight electronic databases from their inception to April 2022. Two authors independently completed study selection, data extraction, and assessed methodological quality according to the revised version of the Cochrane tool (RoB 2). Comparative evaluation of different art therapies' effect was performed by conducting network meta-analysis. The study protocol was registered at PROSPERO. Results: A total of 39 randomized controlled trials involving 2801 participants were included. Calligraphy therapy (MD = 4.39) and reminiscence therapy (MD = 2.53) significantly improved cognitive function compared with the usual care, and reminiscence therapy (MD = 1.75) significantly enhanced cognitive function compared with music therapy. Horticultural therapy significantly decreased agitation behavior compared with the usual care (MD = -31.34), music therapy (MD = -26.66), reading therapy (MD = -28.44) and reminiscence therapy (MD = -27.32). In addition, calligraphy therapy (MD = 9.00) improved quality of life compared with the usual care. Conclusion: Calligraphy therapy might be the most effective art therapy for improving cognitive function and quality of life. Horticultural therapy might be the best art therapy for decreasing agitation behavior. Health-care professionals could consider applying these art therapies to improve cognitive function, agitation behavior and quality of life in patients with dementia.

Introduction: To determine the clinical effects of laparoscopic surgery (LS) in the treatment of endometriosis and endometriosis-fertility. Methods: Two hundred twenty-six patients with endometriosis who underwent LS (LS group, n = 176) or laparotomy (LT group, n = 50) at the Third Hospital of Shijiazhuang City from June 2011 to June 2013 were included in this study, and their clinical outcomes for endometriosis and infertility were compared. All patients were followed up for 1 year after surgery to determine postoperative pregnancies in patients with endometriosis. Results: The operative times between the LS and LT groups were not significantly different (P > 0.05); however, the length of stay in the hospital and blood loss in the LS group were significantly different from the LT group (P < 0.05). The incidence of postoperative symptoms were lower in the LS group than the LT group (P < 0.05). The postoperative pregnancy rates in the two groups were significantly different, including the infertility patients (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Compared with LT, LS significantly reduced pain and improved the quality of life in women with endometriosis. These results can provide a reference for the clinical treatment of endometriosis.

BACKGROUND: Aberrant expression of up-regulated long non-coding RNA [LncRNA highly upregulated in liver cancer (HULC)] has been observed to play an important regulatory role in the development of multiple human diseases. However, the molecular mechanism underlying the role of HULC and miR-377-5p in HCC needs to be urgently explored. METHODS: The mRNA and protein expression levels of HULC were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell line HB611, HepG2 and H22, respectively. HULC-shRNA was transfected into HepG-2 cells, which were randomly divided into the control, shRNA-NC, and sh-HULC groups. The correlation between HULC and miR-377-5p was analyzed by performing a luciferase reporter assay. The targeting relationship between miR-377-5p and hypoxia-inhibitory factor-1α (HIF-1α) was also investigated using a luciferase reporter assay. Sh-HULC and miR-377-5p inhibitors were transfected either alone or together into HepG2 cells, and which were divided into the control group, the sh-HULC group, the miR-377-5p inhibitor, and the sh-HULC + inhibitor group for subsequent experiments. HepG2 cell proliferation and invasion were measured by 5-Ethynyl-2-Deoxyuridine (EdU) staining and Transwell invasion assay, respectively. Western plot was carried out to detect the protein expression levels of Ki67, PCNA, E-cadherin, and N-cadherin. Tumor xenograft mouse models were established to confirm the effect of HULC down-regulation on the development of HCC in vivo. RESULTS: The mRNA and protein expression levels of HULC were markedly increased, whereas the mRNA expression levels of miR-377-5p were decreased in HCC cell lines. HepG2 cell proliferation and invasion were suppressed in the Sh-HULC group, while miR-377-5p showed the opposite. Further experiments exhibited that miR-377-5p was targeted by HULC, and an negative correlation between HULC and miR-377-5p was observed. Importantly, the in vivo experiments indicated that down-regulation of HULC could inhibit tumor growth. Taken together, our research demonstrated that down-regulation of HULC plays an anti-cancer role through restrainingHepG2 cell proliferation and invasion. CONCLUSIONS: In summary, our in vitro and in vivo findings confirmed HULC to play a role in the progression of HCC, with the underlying mechanism possibly involving the miR-377-5p/HIF-1α pathway.

BACKGROUND: The unique geographical environment at high altitudes may cause a series of diseases, such as acute altitude reaction, cerebral edema, and pulmonary edema. Gymnadenia conopsea (L.) R. Br. has been reported to have an effect on high-altitude hypoxia. However, the molecular mechanism, especially the expression of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), is not yet clear. METHODS: The expression profiles of lncRNAs in high-altitude hypoxia-induced brain injury mice treated with Gymnadenia conopsea (L.) R. Br. by using a microarray method. RESULTS: A total of 226 differentially expressed lncRNAs, 126 significantly dysregulated mRNAs and 23 differentially expressed circRNAs were detected (>2.0-fold, p<0.05). The expression of selected lncRNAs, mRNAs and circRNAs was validated by qRT-PCR. KEGG analysis showed that the mRNAs coexpressed with lncRNAs were involved in inflammation and hypoxia pathways, including the HIF-1, PI3K-Akt, and NF-kappa B signaling pathways. The lncRNA-TF network analysis results indicated that the lncRNAs were regulated mostly by HMGA2, SRY, GATA4, SOX5, and ZBTB16. CONCLUSION: This study is the first to report the expression profiles of lncRNAs, mRNAs and circRNAs in mice with high-altitude hypoxia-induced brain injury treated with Gymnadenia conopsea (L.) R. Br. and may improve the understanding of the molecular mechanism of Gymnadenia conopsea (L.) R. Br. in treating high altitude hypoxia-induced brain injury.

Hordei Fructus Germinatus (HFG) has been used as a traditional medicine to treat functional dyspepsia (FD) in China. Stir fried HFG (F-HFG) containing Maillard reaction products (MRPs) is used more widely than the raw HFG (R-HFG). However, the exact mechanisms in its functionality remain unclear. This article investigated the effect of R-HFG, F-HFG, and MRPs on brain-gut peptides, gut microbiota, and digestive enzymes using an FD animal mode. After administration of R-HFG, F-HFG, and MRPs, higher mRNA expression level of gastrin (GAS) and lower mRNA expression level of vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) were exhibited in F-HFG and MRPs rats than R-HFG rats (P < .05). Furthermore, compared with the R-HFG group, the contents of motilin (MTL) and GAS showed an upward tendency, whereas the contents of VIP and chokcystokinin (CCK) showed a downward tendency in the F-HFG group. In addition, bacterial communities in the control, F-HFG, and MRPs groups clustered closely to one another, and bacterial communities in the model and recovery groups clustered together, whereas the bacterial communities in the R-HFG group were clustered into a category. Moreover, there were no apparent differences in brain-gut peptides and gut microbiota between the F-HFG and MRPs groups. However, after the oral administration of R-HFG, F-HFG, and MRPs, the level of digestive enzyme did not show a significant change as compared with the recovery group. These results indicated that the stronger effect of F-HFG could be attributed to the MRPs produced during stir frying, and MRPs possessed the effect of regulating brain-gut peptides and gut microbiota.

Hordei Fructus Germinatus has been always used by "stir-frying" as a traditional medicine and the endpoint judgment of "fragrant" and "yellow" has been the focus and difficulty in frying process research. In this study, a quantitative calibration model between index components and NIRS was established in order to rapidly detect the contents of reducing sugar, total amino acids, total flavonoids, A420 and moisture; besides, an endpoint judgment method of frying process was put forward based on the "component change rate". Near-infrared spectra of samples with different frying time were collected, and a quantitative analysis model based on near-infrared spectroscopy was established to optimize the parameters such as spectral pretreatment and modeling band. HCA and PLS-DA were used to study the relationship between component and "stir-frying", and the endpoint of frying process was determined. The established calibration model had a good performance that the correlation coefficients between the predicted results and the actual measured values were both more than 0.9, with predicted relative deviations less than 10%. Hordei Fructus Germinatus with different frying time was divided into 4 categories by HCA analysis. PLS-DA analysis showed that total reducing sugar had a significant contribution to distinguishing the Hordei Fructus Germinatus of different frying time. When the change rate of total reducing sugar was 80%, it could judge that the endpoint of frying had been obtained. Results showed that NIRS could not only quickly and accurately determine the contents of reducing sugar, total amino acid, total flavonoid, A420 and moisture in Hordei Fructus Germinatus samples of different frying time, but also judge the endpoint of frying in the process. This study provided a new method for the evaluation and endpoint judgment of "stir-frying" process in research of traditional Chinese medicine.

Retinoblastoma is the most frequently occurring tumour in the eyes in early childhood. Novel targets that are important for the diagnosis or treatment of retinoblastoma could be valuable in increasing the survival rate of patients affected by this disease. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a recently discovered type of RNAs with no proteincoding function; yet it has become increasingly clear that lncRNAs are responsible for important gene regulatory functions in various diseases. In this study, the expression of lncRNA HOTAIR was measured by qRT-PCR, and HOTAIR expression was found to be significantly upregulated in human retinoblastomas tissues as compared with that in paracancerous tissues. Knockdown of HOTAIR restricted the proliferation and invasion of the more invasive retinoblastoma Y79 cells, and led to G0/G1 arrest, possibly through inhibiting phospho-RB1, RB1 and CCNE. Furthermore, we found that the Notch signalling pathway was activated abnormally in retinoblastoma cell lines, while knockdown of HOTAIR attenuated the endogenous Notch signalling pathway in vitro and in vivo. In addition, knockdown of HOTAIR could inhibit the tumour progression in a xenograft model of retinoblastoma. In summary, our findings indicate that HOTAIR may play important roles in retinoblastoma progression via Notch pathway. HOTAIR has the potential to enhance the development of novel targeted diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for retinoblastoma.

Temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ OA) is a common and heterogeneous disease that causes painful and progressive joint degeneration, which restricts daily activities, including talking and chewing. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are an important class of genes involved in various physiological and pathological functions, including osteoarthritis (OA).The present study aimed to identify the lncRNAs that are important in TMJ OA and their potential functions. Here, we found that HOTAIR was significantly upregulated in the synovial fluid of TMJ OA patients compared with that of normal controls. Increased HOTAIR was similarly observed in the synovial fluid of TMJ OA rabbits as compared to control rabbits. Furthermore, in interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß)-induced TMJ OA in vitro model (primary rabbit condylar chondrocytes), the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-1, MMP3, MMP9 and HOTAIR were all dramatically increased. Most importantly, knockdown of HOTAIR in IL-1ß-induced TMJ OA in vitro model could not only reverse the IL-1ß-stimulated expressions of MMP1, MMP3 and MMP9, but also significantly decrease the apoptosis rate induced by IL-1ß in primary rabbit condylar chondrocytes. Our data provides new insight into the mechanisms of chondrocytes destruction in TMJ OA.

Purpose To assess the safety and efficacy of ultrasonography (US)-guided suprapubic transvaginal (ST) radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in the treatment of symptomatic uterine leiomyomas at 1-year follow-up. Materials and Methods The institutional review board approved this prospective study, and all patients provided informed consent. ST RFA was performed as an outpatient procedure 3 days after menstruation in 51 women (age range, 32-52 years; mean age, 42.2 years) with 62 leiomyomas. The leiomyomas were assessed with conventional and contrast material-enhanced US before and after ST RFA for leiomyoma size, location, and blood flow. All patients were evaluated for postoperative complications, including abdominal pain, injury to surrounding tissues and organs, vaginal bleeding, increased vaginal discharge, fever, dyspnea, and menorrhagia, after ST RFA and at follow-up visits. The leiomyoma volumes, improvement in leiomyoma-related symptoms, effect on quality of life (QOL), and patient satisfaction were assessed and compared before and after ST RFA and at follow-up visits by using statistical analyses. Results Sixty-two leiomyomas were successfully treated with ST RFA until 90% of the leiomyoma was echogenic. At 1-month follow-up, 46 (74%) leiomyomas had no contrast enhancement, five (8%) had peripheral enhancement, eight (13%) had focal enhancement, and three (5%) had scattered enhancement at contrast-enhanced US. At 6-month follow-up, the number of leiomyomas that had no enhancement, peripheral enhancement, focal enhancement, or scattered enhancement was 43 (69%), seven (11%), nine (15%), and three (5%), respectively. The leiomyoma volumes were significantly (P < .05) reduced at 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month follow-up (from 33.0 cm(3) ± 25.1 [standard deviation] before treatment to 6.8 cm(3) ± 7.7 at 12-month follow-up). The mean percentage volume reduction at 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month follow-up was 28%, 57%, 63%, and 78%, respectively. The scores for symptoms and QOL were all significantly improved (P < .05) at follow-up, going from 45 ± 14 and 65 ± 41, respectively, before treatment to 0 and 100, respectively, at 12-month follow-up. No complications were reported during the periprocedural period or throughout follow-up. Most patients (41 of 45) were satisfied. It is not scientific to explain that fried Fructus Hordei Germinatus is more effective than row Fructus Hordei Germinatus in resolving food stagnation from the aspects of amylase, tricine and other "active ingredients". In the present experiment, the contents of active ingredients including quercetin, tricine, kaempferol, catechin, ferulic acid and inactive ingredients including 5-hydroxymethyl furfural, acrylamide in frying process were determined by HPLC. The dynamic change rules of active ingredient and inactive ingredients in the frying process were investigated by HCA, PCA and PLS-DA analysis. The results showed that the Fructus Hordei Germinatus samples with different frying temperatures were classified into 4 groups by HCA and PCA analysis. PLS-DA analysis showed that frying temperature mainly impacted the contents of inactive ingredients including 5-hydroxymethyl furfural and acrylamide, with less effects on the contents of active ingredients. Simultaneously, with the increase of time in frying process, the content of 5-hydroxymethyl furfural was significantly increased from 2 min and became stable at 16 min, while the content of acrylamide was increased continuously from 18 min. Based on the variation of the contents of various ingredients, samples at different frying time were classified into 5 groups. The results showed that the content changes of "inactive ingredients" were closely related to the duration and degree of frying process, and the dynamic change rules of "inactive ingredients" can provide scientific basis for evaluating the frying process and elucidating the efficacy mechanism of Fructus Hordei Germinatus.

The factors that govern the deposition and structure of "waist" ZnO twin rods from aqueous solution through hydrothermal synthesis were discussed in details. Pencil-like ZnO hexagonal twin rods were obtained in Zn(2+) + HMTA system on ITO glass substrates with ZnO buffer layer deposited in advance. As a contrast, a series of experiments were preceded with TBAB or on bare Cu sheet, Zn sheet, and Al sheet to research lattice-match influences on ZnO nucleation. A series of "waist" ZnO hexagonal twin rods were synthesized and the morphology of each "waist" was shown. The forming of different waists results from the different lattice-match effects between substrates and ZnO crystal. We demonstrated ZnO hexagonal twin rods synthesis on Cu, Al, Zn sheet by normal hydrothermal synthesis and revealed different forming schemes of these varying "waists" of the twin structures. On the basis of our research, not only some new ways of synthesizing ZnO twin rods were proposed but a new idea of applying metal to nano-devices used in piezoelectric area.

In this work, shape-controlled synthesis of zinc oxide (ZnO) microstructures were demonstrated using liquid-phase route utilizing zinc acetate hydrate as zinc ion precursor and ammonia as pH buffering agent and source for zinc-ammonia complexes. Glass substrate coated with indium tin oxide layer was used as the growth substrate. Zinc-ammonia complex was thought of as the component of growth for ZnO crystals. Inorganic shape-directing agents, instead of organic ones were used in this study e.g., trisodium citrate or aluminum nitrate hexahydrate. The effect of pH altering agent e.g., sodium hydroxide towards the crystal structure was also probed. Without shape-directing agents, the resultant ZnO crystals exhibited multilayer petals flower shape with uniform size (e.g., diameter of -2.5 microm). Adding trisodium citrate, led to the formation of burger crystals with uniform size (e.g., height of -200 nm and diameter of -800 nm). Adding aluminum nitrate hexahydrate resulted in the formation of hexagonal disk with wide variation in size (diameter varied between -0.8 to 4 microm). The addition of sodium hydroxide, strong base, altered the pH into high value very rapidly in the beginning of the synthesis and caused faster nucleation rate in a NaOH containing solution with respect to that in a NH3 solution. In this case, crystals with different morphology are obtained, e.g., dot like, monopetal-flower like and octahedron like. The detailed processes pertaining for each case were explained in this work.
